Hope for peace
Nadzieja, Espérance, Przyszłość, Avenir, dans la langue de cette jeunesse de Varsovie, Cracovie, Gdańsk, Lublin, Częstochowa, Katowice,… Entrée en 2004 dans l’Union Européenne, cette terre de multiple fois occupée, découpée est entourée de la Mer Baltique, de la Russie, de l’Allemagne, de la Biélorussie, de l’Ukraine, de la République Tchèque, de la Slovaquie. La patrie de Chopin, Marie Skłodowska-Curie, qui reçut deux fois Prix Nobel de Physique (entrée dans le Panthéon Français!), mais aussi l’incontournable Lech Wałęsa du fameux Mouvement Solidarność, lauréat du prix Nobel de la Paix en 1983, ou encore Nicolas Copernic qui contre vents et marées, affirmait que la Terre tournait autour du Soleil… Terre ou fut inventée une étonnante langue qui se rêve universelle : L’Espéranto*, entrée au Patrimoine national de la Pologne en 2014, conçu dans l’imaginaire d’un jeune juif polonais convaincu qu’une langue qui n’appartiendrait à aucune nation mais à toutes serait un vecteur de Paix…
Polish architectural heritage exists as proof of the absolute need for peace,
such as the Old Town of Warsaw, destroyed and rebuilt from scratch after the II World War, and Auschwitz-Birkenau, German Nazi concentration and extermination camp (1940-1945) *, registered as World Heritage of Humanity. Those who go there can do nothing but question the ability of Man to choose between greatness and atrocity, between war and peace. In many schools in Poland trips to that place are obligatory, as part of their education program. “War is always a defeat of Humanity”, a famous phrase of one of the most celebrated Poles in history, Karol Wojtyła, who was preparing for a career as a theater actor, but became Pope instead…. These young people from such an underrated country could greatly surprise us …
